LKAB
From reactive to predictive
From their mines in Northern Sweden, LKAB has an annual iron ore production of 30 million tonnes, making them the biggest producer in all of Europe. The iron ore is transported with a fleet of 30 locomotives and 1300 wagons with 32,5 tonnes axle load, from the Swedish city of Luleå to the ports of Narvik in Norway – a 473 kilometers single track.

Due to an increased production of iron ore the challenge is to raise both productivity and efficiency in logistics. LKAB made an agreement with Predge to use their decision support solutions. The main objectives were to increase reliability/availability and lower costs by:
