LKAB

From reactive to predictive

From their mines in Northern Sweden, LKAB has an annual iron ore production of 30 million tonnes, making them the biggest producer in all of Europe. Predictive maintenance reduces disruptions.

Smarter maintenance for growth

Due to an increased production of iron ore the challenge is to raise both productivity and efficiency in logistics. LKAB made an agreement with Predge to use their decision support solutions. The main objectives were to increase reliability/availability and lower costs by:

Reducing the proportion of reactive maintenance in favour of predictive maintenance

Planning all maintenance activities with time and place

86% fewer failures

As a result, LKAB saw an 86% reduction of wheel bearing failure and predictive vs. reactive maintenance work went from 70/30 to 90/10. Other improvements were:

Autonomous: Confidence in the analyses – automatic generation of work orders to the workshops

Scheduling and planning maintenance activities based on condition of the assets and the capacity and ability of the workshops
